A study was carried out at Experimental Farm for Aquaculture, Nong Lam University. The study was conducted the two following trials:
Trial 1: Fattening and breeding of rice – field crabs Rice – field crabs were cultured in 9 cement tanks (size of 0.95 x 0.86 x 1m). The crabs were fed by trash fish, manioc, rice.
Trial 2: Nursing young crabs
The young crabs were nursed in glass tanks (size of 0.8 x 0.4 x 0.4m) with soil at bottom. The trial was divided into three treatments with 3 kinds of feed such as blood worm (Tubifex) for treatment I; a mixed feed (50% of trash fish, 25% of rice bran and 25% of corn bran) for treatment II and manioc for treatmnet III. Each treatment was replicated three times (3 plots) with the same time. Each plot has 100 young crabs. Average length and weight of young crab was 2mm and 0.004g/ind.
The results of the study showed that: real fecundity of rice – field crab is 22.29 ± 4.37 eggs/gram of body; each gram of body breeder crab produced 23.75 ± 3.49 young crabs; hatching time was 15 – 21 days; the growth of the young crabs fed by blood worm (treatment
I) was better than that of mixed feed (treament II) and manioc (treatment III).
